10 Amazing and Inexpensive Boot Refashions

There are some amazing ideas on this list. Admit it, we all have some old boots that could use some love. Make sure to comment with photos any refashions that you do! I have 2 pairs of boots that my cat scratched up, but if i refashion, perhaps I can give them new life!

Magical Prints and Ethereal Colors: Winter Trends of 2014

Who else is completely enamored with these magical, fairytale and ethnic inspired prints? They are rich, they are whimsical, and they are wearable art. I do not own any of the images below but they are truly inspiring me for a new look. Being a young, artist mom on a budget, I don’t have a lot of money to spend, but I am so in love with these inspirations, I’m going to start a journey to create inspired looks. I’ll start at the thrift store and go to places like Ross and TJ Maxx to create at least a little magic in my current wardrobe (trust me, it’s much needed).

These pastels are amazing. They look like candy, or softly powdered colorful snow. This is not my usual color palette, but they’re making me so happy to look at, especially the more metallic pastels. Let’s see what I can come up with!

In addition to my own personal wardrobe, I will use these as inspiration for more winter items to add to the shop!

Thanks for reading and stay Heavenly everyone!

My Beautiful Customers!

Here’s my beautiful neighbor Diana wearing one of our¬†Creamsicle Calavera Flowers! I only have one left so make sure to contact me if you want it! $8.00 + S/H.

This is a commissioned portrait from my customer Cherie. Based off of the reference photo she provided as well as her love for the combination of pink and brown, I was inspired by the feathers (and by watching Boardwalk Empire over and over again) and lights for this delicate and ethereal feel. Portraits are available for $40 at the shop, one person. If you need more than one person in the portrait, let me know!

Stay tuned for more heavenly, cute, and sometimes creepy things at Heavenly Skull!

Historical Home Tour Event in Oxnard, CA

This weekend’s event in Oxnard was pretty, well…magical! I had a wonderful time. Thanks to Marcia Yoshida from Stampin’ Up for inviting me to participate! It was the most beautiful setting I’ve set up shop at, ever. The historical neighborhood of Oxnard with their over 100 year old Craftsman style homes, on a perfect Southern California day, breeze from the beach, and shade from the large, old trees, was the perfect setting for all my creepy and cute items, especially my newest Calavera dolls! Check out some of them below. You’ll notice they look quite different from the ones I’ve been creating so far:10414642_10152407061462083_6348389501499277395_n

All of my Calavera dolls are one of a kind. I don’t use a template to sew them and I don’t use any stencils or preconcieved ideas to design them. I just decide on a shape and paint, paint, paint! So what you’re getting when you buy one of my Calavera dolls is the direct transfer from my creativity, to you. ūüôā I also worked on some new hair flowers. These are much more involved than the ones I’ve done in the past. I had a lot of fun creating these:

Project Runway Episode 3 Recap: Welcome to the Future!

This third episode of Project Runway was a good one! Last night’s challenge was to create¬†a¬†look twenty years into the future that was inspired by 1994 Marie Claire magazines. Many designers’ were¬†reminiscing on what they were doing fashion-wise and as kids. Many inspirations came from the past and thoughts of what the future holds. This challenge called for creativity, an open eye, and risk taking!

WARNING if you haven’t seen the episode yet *SPOILERS*

As the designers enter the workroom they are welcomed by pictures of them in the year of 1994 on a wall. Many were young and some were already in their adult years. After looking at how young they were the designers’¬†immediately¬†went to work. Many were sketching, cutting, or¬†sewing already. They only had one day to make an outfit so time was valuable!

Designs were being made and a lot of laughter was shared. But even laughter doesn’t stop the clock from ticking! All the designers were working fast and hard to gain respect from the judges and hopefully win the challenge. Some outfits were too small or too big on the models during the fittings so alterations had to be made. After a little while Tim Gunn came into the workroom. He gave good comments and helpful advice, as usual, and left most of the designers feeling confident. However,¬†one of my favorite designers, Angela, was getting nervous and insecure about her work after Tim Gunn’s critique. She needed to sew parts of her outfit together, but the models were already coming into the workroom. You know what that means, Runway Time!

As the Runway started, there were many beautiful designs! Almost all of them were well fitted and clean cut with a futuristic look to them. My favorite design was Emily’s jumpsuit, just¬†stunning! It was a dark gray colored jumpsuit with a black belt in the middle. All the judges agreed that it was simple, powerful, and elegant. There was also one other look that was beautiful and caught the judges’ eyes. Kristine’s look was a dark green jacket with slits at the arms and a white and see through white layered short dress. Once the runway was over there were six conestants remaining for the judges to talk to. One of them was going to be the loser and one of them, the winner.

Emily, Kristine, and Sandhya all got great comments about their look and were in the top. Sean, Alexander, and Angela got the worst comments and were the three losing outfits. These losing outfits were poorly made and didn’t have much going on for them. Sandhya’s outfit represented a strong, futuristic look without looking comical and¬†she won (again!) and gained immunity for the next challenge (again)! I was proud, because she proved to everyone that she’s a worthy designer. Angela’s outfit was decided to be the worst. Her outfit was too short for what she was trying to convey¬†and was poorly¬†sewn. She seemed to have a lot of potential with¬†her feminine touch, but she played it too safe and didn’t believe in herself enough. I wish the remaining designers’ luck since it’s only going to get harder from this point on!
